Great. Vai and Lydian goes one wit another, one of the characteristics of his playing
Awesome illustration of Steve's Lydian use Chowy!
HI GMC!
This time the lesson is based on E major, more specifically on the Lydian mode, which has the
special characteristic of having 4th sharp, a note that inspires very airy and mysterious
feelings and a favorite of Mr Vai, Guthrie Govan and tons of other guitarists in the same style.
The whole exercise is in Emaj7, Ionian scale, where E is the 4th degree as you probably know.
The most important thing when you compose a melody is to be yourself, to be true, and also to
include a personal touch in everything you play, This makes a real difference and defines your
musical personality. Sometimes,a slide or a good vibrato can articulate a melody or turn an
otherwise dull phrase into something rich and lively. Try composing simple stuff and then enhance
it with small subtleties here and there! It definitely works!
I wanted this lesson to have a metal flavor, that's why the background guitar is always mimicked by
the double drums, especially in the triplets with palm mute.
I hope you enjoy the lesson. Practise a lot and see you next time!!
